Aerogaviota, S.A. - tourism-linked company operates its own airplane and helicopter fleet from its headquarters at Baracoa Military Air Base some 10 miles from Havana. Although it is incorporated as a private company, it is staffed completely by military personnel; even the presidential fleet is housed in its facilities. Aerogaviota has Russian MI-8 helicopters, AAAN-26 airplanes, and a Soviet-made JAK-40 triple reactor. Under the direction of Colonel José Manuel Borges Vivó.

Antex, S.A. - provides engineering and technical assistance services and is also an important GAESA company that serves as conduit for introducing spies trained by Military Counterintelligence (CIM) into other countries. It has offices in over ten countries, including Panama, Angola, South Africa and Namibia. Antex has no operations in Spain. Military Intelligence Department (DIM) is under the direction of Division General Jesus Bermudez Cutiño.

Sermar, S.A. - is the Cuban Crown Corporation that controls exploration of all Cuban waters and operates shipyards for all naval repairs. The company was launched with a fleet of navy vessels and now it even has its own diving team. Sermar is involved in a very lucrative business: the search for sunken treasures in an ocean rich with capsized Spanish ships. Under the direction of Captain Luis Beltrán Fraga Artiles.

Morro-Cabaña Historical and Military Complex (Complejo Histórico-Militar
Morro Cabaña) - serves as an umbrella for all historic museums and monuments that address Cuban military history. Under the direction of Colonel Herman Washington.

 

Sasa, S.A. - cornered with the automobile sector and runs repair shops that specialize in both light and heavy equipment; also controls an important gas station network throughout the country. Under the direction of Antonio Luis Choong Estupiñán.

Division Financiera (Financial Division) - whose goal is to recycle and reinvest income generated by the GAESA network. One such operation under Division Financiera is TRD Caribe – Currency Recovery Stores - run by Alexis Mejías Zamarión. The chain has over 400 stores throughout the island and generates more than one hundred million dollars annually. Its products can be purchased only with American currency. The company maintains high business volume with China and Hong Kong.

Geocuba - is in the cartography business. Run by Coronel Ing. Eladio Fernández Cívico from the Armed Forces Ministry. Geocuba makes sure that no strategic or military sites appear on any maps.

Empresa de Servicios La Marina (La Marina Service Company) - run by a Military Counterintelligence major, takes care of security and maintenance for all of GAESA’s support personnel.

 

Military Counterintelligence Department VI is also part of the holding. Until recently Colonel Peralta headed Department VI; but the one who really runs this outfit is Luis Alberto Rodriguez, Raul Castro’s son-in-law. Located on the fourth floor of the Armed Forces Ministry, Department VI monitors and controls all GAESA operations, including policing, spying, taping and recording all GAESA personnel activities.

the importance of fishery lies in the fact that it serves as a source of food both for the general population and for export.
